The issue was that the gadgets were not fully developed. It might have been my weak JavaScript skills, but constant polling consumed a lot of CPU, and the API lacked many helpful details (like WiFi speed). Instead of fixing it, they removed it completely. Now in version 11 they reintroduced some limited widgets from Microsoft and called it a new feature, haha.
A lot of improvements and new features have been added. While they were innovative in concept, integrating the complexities of Internet Explorer into the operating system might not have been the optimal choice.
