I’ve noticed some artifacts in BF2042 lately. At first I thought it might be a normal issue, since similar problems don’t appear in other games like Metro Exodus, BFV, Fallout 4 or GTA 5. I ran an OCCT VRAM test and everything worked fine. The 3D Standard test, however, quickly generates WHEA errors—usually after 10 to 30 minutes. Artifacts in BF2042 are uncommon, but the WHEA issues in OCCT are quite consistent. My system uses a ZOTAC AMP Extreme AIRO RTX 4090, which I purchased two months ago. I’ve performed a DDU clean install twice and kept the card at full stock settings. I’m considering an RMA—should I? Spoiler: It’s time.

Reinstall the card entirely (remove it from the PCIe connector, turn off power). This might fix a weak connection.

Check Event Viewer for any WHEA BSODs or related events. It might point to a GPU issue, but could also indicate something else.

I'll attempt this once I have time to launch my PC, thanks for the tip. So far I haven't seen BSODs or crashes, but I looked into the event viewer and found WHEA logs mentioning PCI Express. That gives us a clearer direction, thanks Spoiler!

It clearly points to the GPU as the issue. Technically it might also relate to WiFi or NVMe, but those symptoms make it highly improbable.

I examined the event viewer closely and noticed the WHEA-Logger alerts have been appearing since January 23rd. With four different video cards installed recently, I suspect the issue isn’t tied to artifacting in BF2042. I’ve experienced other visual problems in BF2042 on a 3090, so it’s possible the game is the cause. My system uses an ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI D4, and while occasional artifacting is normal, I’m puzzled by these notifications. I haven’t seen any BSODs or crashes this year, and my RAM remains stable after multiple Memtest86 runs.
