Hello, I just installed a 4090 graphics card and every time I boot up the PC, my frame rate drops to a very low 15-20 FPS until I restart. I used GPU-Z and checked the bus interface, which showed "PCIE x16 4.0 @ x1 4.0". It appears to be connected between x1 1.0 and 4.0. Since I’m comfortable building PCs, I might not grasp what’s happening. My system specs are: GIGABYTE AORUS X670E PRO X, GIGABYTE AERO RTX 4090 OC, XPG LANCER 64GB (2x32GB), 6000 CL30-40-40-40, Samsung 990 Pro x2, WD SN850X. I’m running Power 12 80+ Platinum 1200W with PCIe 5.0. NZXT Elite 360 RGB AIO. BIOS is F22, Windows version 10.0.22631, NVIDIA driver 552.12. Running programs include Lian Li Connect 3, NZXT CAM, RGB Fusion, Steelseries GG, Steam, and GeForce Experience. Important points: Two Samsung 990 Pro units are in integrated CPU lanes, labeled as M2A_CPU and M2B_CPU. Fast Boot is disabled, DDU reinstalled, BIOS/Windows/Nvidia updated, Memory Context Restore off, Secure Boot off, GSYNC turned off on monitor, EXPO disabled, Windows cleaned, GPU reseated, verified 12VHPWR connection, and PC powered from a dedicated outlet.

Experiment with a game to see how Nvidia GPUs manage power efficiently. When connected to an X16 lane, they may limit usage to just one lane initially, activating additional lanes only when required.

It's surprising how limited the documentation is for this setup. You may need to switch the 16x slot to PCI-E 4.0 in the BIOS. Consider updating M2A/B to 4.0 or using M2C/M2D through the chipset.

It's accurate too. However, he mentions a range from 1.0 times 1 to 4.0 times 1.

I should have noted that I forced the PCIE x16 lane to operate at Gen5, but it didn’t work. Changing the SSDs to different M.2 slots could be the next step. A friend also suggested downgrading the BIOS to version 1.0.0.7c.

Same situation again. For instance, I’m aware of the timing when playing Destiny 2. In a non-combat area, frames hover near 500 FPS and drop to 200 during fights. When the GPU struggles, I see 150-200 with steady stuttering, then it plummets to around 30 during combat. I disabled GeForce Overlay too, as it caused similar drops to about 6 FPS. This time I didn’t apply the fix.

PCI-E X16 and M2A, B should be on the same lane. Upgrading to PCI-E 4.0 could assist. Uncertain about specifics, as I’m unsure if it works per slot and they also support PCI-E 5.0. Confusion is common online.
