I think it is best summed up by the support request I sent to ZOTAC: I sent this and got an automated response telling me a ZOTAC representative would get in contact within 24-72 hours. It's been 2 weeks so idk what to do at this point. An update on the "when connecting the display to the motherboard output all issues cease and the PC is perfectly stable" - this is also no longer the case. Doing that made the PC stable enough to get into Windows but as soon as I open a game or game engine the display freezes and it will BSOD if I wait for the DPC watchdog to time out. Got the BSOD information by launching CS2, leaving the main menu running for about a minute. Game froze, closed the game, then after about 90 seconds or however long it takes the DPC watchdog I got the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD (with heavy graphical artifacts). Zip attached, PC spec: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/b/WpBcCJ , OS is OEM x64 Windows 10 Pro 10.0.19045 Build 19045, NVIDIA driver is 537.42 (latest as of 30/09/2023). Couldn't get perfmon /report to finish collecting for some reason. Anything for me to try or does anyone have recommendations for how to get ZOTAC or the seller to replace this brick? Hello, the situation isn’t great... @ManEatingFridge there might be other factors at play besides your GPU. From the search results, DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION on Windows 10 can stem from hardware conflicts. If you’ve recently added external drives, SSDs, printers, or scanners, try removing or disconnecting them and restart your PC. Also, consider checking other components in your system—your Zotac 4090 and 1000W PSU might be involved if they’re causing interference.

@Robchil The pcpartpicker list https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/b/WpBcCJ is in the post but here you go: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X Mobo: Asus ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI RAM: Corsair Vengeance 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 GPU: Zotac GAMING AMP Extreme AIRO GeForce RTX 4090 SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB PSU: SeaSonic PRIME TX-1000 The reason I don't suspect any other components is because Event Viewer specifically says nvlddmkm crashed, there are graphical artifacts on the BSOD, Memory Diagnostic shows no issues with the memory, CPU torture tests show no issues, temps are all normal even right up to the crash from HWiNFO logging, the crashing is triggered by 3D applications, and most importantly when I remove the GPU from the PC all issues cease . Anecdotally a local PC repair shop guy said he has never seen a Seasonic PSU fail in 21 years and said my issues are 99% likely just a manufacturing defect in the GPU memory. If you have suggestions for what else might cause the issue I'm open to it though.

It indicates a conflict between your card and another system component, likely causing the vendor to be unable to reproduce it. The NVLDmddkm crash is due to this issue. 1000 watts seems sufficient power, but have you checked other parts to see if the problem resolves? Consider adding a cooler, RAM, and a Windows disk with the PSU outside the case to test further. Try disabling NVIDIA audio devices—does the issue occur when the GPU is in a different PCIe slot?

All other audio equipment except Focusrite USB Audio is turned off. I haven’t tested it with the GPU in any additional PCIe slots since it only fits in the first one. I might swap the SSD to another M.2 slot, but I don’t think that will make much difference. For a basic setup running on minimal hardware, I already powered it up after my second Windows reinstall, and the problems persisted—games would crash because the DirectX device stopped working.

That’s helpful information—you explored all the options. It should fit in the lower PCIe slot, though you’d likely need to remove the board because of spacing. Since the M.2 drive is already PCIe 4.0, I’d go with one of those instead. Just test swapping the NVMe slot first.

tested various PCIe slots previously? examine the NVMe configuration in BIOS for PCIe 4x band. adjust to 2x and observe changes. ensure the CPU cooler isn't overly restrictive around the CPU, as this might impact performance. RAM plays a significant role, but tight RAM could also affect PCIe lanes. If issues persist, verify all pins are intact—like checking if the secondary slot works suggests the problem lies with the CPU or mainboard. Often it's just a matter of compatibility confusion.

It seems like the compatibility problem might have been the main issue. The GPU functioned well for a while, but after three months things started to change. I noticed similar problems when testing on another motherboard during my friend's PC build. The CPU pins were already checked and looked good. I also tried the system with a 980 EVO 1TB SSD and encountered the same issues.

Have you tried using a different power supply unit? A 1200W model would be suitable—I’d consider returning it if the issue persists.
