I would have described this as a subpar optimized game, but if you claim improved speed with a 770(?) perhaps your drivers are faulty. You might also want to verify CPU usage across all cores using MSI Afterburner from the link you provided.
Completed the task, CPU utilization was steady near 30 across all cores. GPU remained at 80 with no visible FPS changes from low to high settings. Everything seems stable for smooth gameplay at 144fps.
Based on real-world observations, top-tier hardware isn't enough if your drivers aren't up to date. Even with powerful components, suboptimal results can occur. If you have funds, consider switching to a GPU compatible with the same game's release period. Persistent problems usually mean newer hardware will perform worse. As software evolves, games often remove features or change requirements without updating, leaving players behind. Early PC gaming experiences showed this clearly—some classic titles failed on modern systems due to unaddressed compatibility issues. Games that once ran smoothly now struggle with multi-core processors or older setups. The best approach is to pair hardware and software as close to the latest updates as possible.
After reviewing information about the game, it appears updates happen regularly on Steam. Given titles like Skyrim that accumulate more features, performance tends to improve with newer versions, but often at the cost of increased size and complexity. It seems developers may prioritize recent hardware over older systems, making it harder for older rigs to keep up. If you recently upgraded your graphics card, you might notice a drop in frame rates, especially when higher resolutions are used. Lowering the resolution can significantly boost performance in such cases. In my experience, this adjustment often makes the biggest difference. I run an UE4 game that stutters at 1080p low settings but runs smoothly at 900p high settings—trying resolution changes helps a lot.
Thanks for your message. I upgraded in February (all else except the GPU). The new specs gave me around 120-140 fps at low to medium settings. Once I got the GPU, I was getting 60-90 fps on low, medium, and high settings. I’m planning to lower the resolution to see if it improves render quality.
