I’d start by using compressed air to clear the dust from the vents. Those spots usually gather dirt over time and this should help. If that doesn’t work, I’d take the machine apart to reach the GPU as a final option. You might also look for an iFixit guide specific to your model if you really need it.
Hi, I own two 2080 Ti systems with a maximum temperature of 84°C. I haven’t tested it yet but I’m planning to assume they’ll shut down or throttle hard if things go wrong. If you don’t have one, invest in quality thermal paste—like an IFixit kit or similar. You can open the card to swap it out. I’m still weighing whether to replace mine, as they run around 40°C at idle and 55°C under load—about 99% of the time. So it probably isn’t necessary yet. In fact, I had to change the thermal paste on my CPU before it reached 100°C during gaming.
Thanks a lot! This really solved my issue completely. It took some time to find the right thermal paste, but once I got it, everything worked perfectly. Now instead of idling at 90°C, it’s around 54°C!
