Router with USB drive for file transfers.
The USB drive connected via SATA in an external case works well at first, but after halfway through the transfer it begins to slow down and eventually stops.
I’d prefer not to use a router as a NAS because their processors usually can’t manage broadband and WiFi well, and they have very limited RAM compared to a dedicated NAS. A standard PC or Raspberry Pi would work better. The USB ports might also struggle with high current when powered via USB, so for optimal performance it’s better to use a drive with its own power supply if needed.
He’s not quite sure about the separate PSU, so just keep the CPU and RAM running smoothly.
