Router setup for VPN split tunneling
Hello, We are evaluating a router with split tunneling features. Our aim is to configure a VPN client on the router so we can reach certain websites through the VPN while accessing others normally. We need to connect a static IP address and limit traffic to specific routes. Our mesh network relies on the Deco mesh protocol and uses AC2200 access points. Currently, we are using a Fritzbox 7590 which works well but doesn’t support OpenVPN. Our VPN service doesn’t support WireGuard or IPSec. We’re looking for a router that supports both OpenVPN and Deco mesh, or an alternative device positioned between the router and the outside network that meets these needs. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
The primary aim is to link our set-top box to BBC iPlayer. Since we're in the Netherlands and can't reach it directly, we need an alternative method. Based on my findings, setting up a VPN on the router seems like the simplest solution.
Examine GL.iNet routers for their capability to handle your tasks efficiently with minimal costly equipment. Also, consider switching the Fritzbox to pass-through mode after GL.iNet assumes routing responsibilities.
