I'm currently using a Comcast plan with 100mbps speeds and planning an upgrade. Looking for a solid router-modem combo to boost performance.

Fun to hear! You're new to the community since 2018, and it's great you're exploring different router types.

Captain, it makes sense you're focusing on videos instead. I understand about gateways and routers, but I'm eager to switch to my own setup. Keeping up with the newest tech can be a challenge, though.

They don’t work well. I won’t suggest any of them.

I understand. However, I meant a good modem and router.

Modem options include Cm500, CM600, and SB6183. Docsis 3.1 modems should generally suffice. For achieving the advertised 1.2 Gbps speed, you’ll need a modem with a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port and a router featuring a 2.5 Gbps WAN port. Link aggregation is an option, but it’s limited on routers. For 100 Mbps, any model should function. I wouldn’t recommend 4x4 or 8x4 modems, as Comcast appears to be reducing support for them. The Synology RT 2609AC is a solid choice for me, though it’s a WiFi 5 router priced around $200. Someone might suggest a more affordable alternative.

For upgrading to a multi-gig tier, consider this guide. Many suggestions include at least one 2.5Gbps port for LAN/WAN, though more advanced models may cost extra.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I chose the Netgear cm1000 and linked it with a TP-Link deco S4. Upgrading the switch should be seamless.
