We all recognize circular or crosshair mouse buttons can be problematic, yet arrows remain popular. The main drawbacks seem to be their lack of precision and the difficulty in pinpointing the exact center. Having experimented with circular cursors in several games, I found them manageable, so I set up a custom setup. The background and busy icons use a rotating dot on a grey circle, while the white filling mimics YouTube’s buffering effect. A semi-transparent black area sits in the middle. Over the past day, I’ve noticed only minor adjustments—sometimes drifting slightly to the bottom-right when clicking. This might be due to limited testing time, but switching to centered hotspots feels more intuitive. Text selection has become smoother since the transition between pointing and selecting is now more fluid. If you’re curious about other users’ experiences with circular cursors or any downsides compared to arrows, let me know—I’d appreciate hearing from others. ---- PS: I wasn’t sure if this should go in a general thread or a specific one, so I went with this post. Sorry if it’s not the right forum. PPS: Added the files I’m using; you’ll need to install them manually since I can’t generate an installer file.

Sure, I can help with that. Would you like me to format it in a specific form or form form?

Looks promising! The idea of muscle memory feels more genuine than I thought. Exciting to discover how it will feel once I adapt!

To be honest I think it's more of a history thing than anything. Unless there's some massive event that somehow impairs our ability to use the standard 'arrow' cursor, why change it when it's been that way for literally decades? I think I'd compare it to the DVORAK keyboard. People who use the DVORAK layout do seem to enjoy it, but for the layperson they simply just don't have the time or willpower to learn a new keyboard layout when it offers little to no benefit over their QWERTY keyboard layout. I do think the concept of a circular cursor is a pretty interesting idea though; and maybe I'll try out using a circular cursor pack someday, but for the time being I think I'd just stick to the regular old arrow cursor.

After a week of use, it now feels more accurate than the arrow. The adjustment to being slightly shifted to the right and lower has mostly disappeared. I’m still expecting it to be subpar considering how many people prefer arrow cursors or just arrows, but I’m really surprised by how well it works.
