I wasn't certain whether this post should go in the Troubleshooting section or the PC Gaming section, so please forgive me if it ended up in the wrong place. I've played Rome II: Total War for a while now and really enjoyed it on Windows 10 a few months ago. After uninstalling it, I wanted to jump back in, so I re-downloaded the game and tried launching it just like with all my other Steam titles. But it doesn't start—just shows "Running" next to the title, then quickly switches to "Syncing" before going blank. The task manager doesn’t indicate it started, and the usual launcher isn’t visible where you can check or adjust your mods. It’s just not responding. I’ve searched online, but most of the advice comes from 2014 and 2015 posts, all suggesting similar fixes. Here’s a quick summary of what I tried: restart, checked game integrity, uninstalled/reinstalled, cleared registry with CCleaner, launched from the folder, logged out/back in, deleted appdata, and unsubscribed from mods. I’ve probably done other things too, but most help focused on these steps. The only change is the recent Microsoft Creator update, which I’m not sure affects this game. All my other Steam games are working perfectly. I attached a short clip showing what happens when I try to launch it (running as admin after a fresh install). I’m really stuck. Do anyone else have encountered this problem with another game or specifically with this one? Thanks for any assistance!

Rome II is such a great memory, though it's been a bit of a headache lately. I remember having a similar issue once—no clear fix found, just it seemed to work on its own. You might want to try reinstalling the drivers, since that’s probably what you haven’t done yet...

For video card drivers, I just tried again to confirm. It still doesn't work. Appreciate your response!

This could actually work! I noticed the launcher getting blocked in the background and showing a similar error. It wouldn’t run smoothly, sometimes quitting unexpectedly too. When you proceed, double-check that several Total War titles are available.

I clean and reinstall my operating system each year, and it usually works fine after the fresh Windows update. I’m not sure what caused the problem, but it seems fixed now.

The program was allowed to run without interference. Happy to know it worked!

It never really got blocked since it didn’t begin. The task manager caught it briefly, but it didn’t stay visible for more than a second. It’s frustrating it needed a full restart, even though I planned to proceed.
