ROG STRIX X670E-E with 3 USB ports fails after BIOS update. Possible voltage issues in the SOC may be causing problems.
Hello, I just got the 1416 BIOS from ASUS for my X670 motherboard to address the SOC voltage problem. After applying the update, three of my USB ports stopped working—they have power but no data transfer. I’ve reset the PC, reinstalled Windows, disabled and enabled all USBs in BIOS, looked for hardware updates, and cleaned the inside of my computer. Still nothing works. I’m unsure what to do next and don’t want to send the board in for return if it doesn’t help. I’d really appreciate any advice on alternative solutions or fixes, especially since I don’t have time to wait for repairs and prefer not to replace the board.
I’d test flashing to 1303 bios to check if USB problems disappear. I also faced odd glitches with 1416 bios (very sluggish in Windows 11 and problems with two SATA SSDs), so I reverted to 1303 with restored settings. Set temp limit to 70°C in Advanced > AMD Overclocking > Precision Boost Overdrive > Advanced > Platform Thermal Throttle Ctrl = Manual / Limit = 70. I’ll attempt an upgrade again once they release another non-Beta bios after 1416. The same motherboard remains, equipped with a 7950x CPU and 64GB DDR5-6000 (4x16GB) with DOCP II enabled.
Hello, I'm checking the UEFI version you were using prior to 1416. I reset to 1303 but it doesn't function properly. Let me know, Daniel.
Hey Nasp11, I managed to get all three USB ports—E1, E2 and E3—functioning again according to the manual. I went back to BIOS version 925, but it didn’t work even though that was the version the board came with. After disconnecting all USB devices, I pressed the delete key to enter BIOS. I performed a CMOS reset using the back panel button. Then I booted up the computer and navigated to BIOS. Using a mouse, I tested each port and they were working now. I reinserted all USB devices in any order. Updated the BIOS to version 1416, followed PBO setup, applied the curve optimizer, Expo, and restored memory context. Now everything is working smoothly with version 1416. Hope this helps you resolve your problem. Good luck!
Could be due to a static buildup on some Asus boards affecting certain parts. This often impacts WiFi and Bluetooth. To resolve, I powered off the system, unplugged it, held the power button for 10 seconds or longer, and functionality returned after a week to 24 hours. Afterward, a newer BIOS version resolved the issue on my board.
