Rog Strix B650/7700x memory problems reported Issues include RAM instability and failure on some units
You're experiencing differences in BIOS settings between your new 7700x and older models like the X570/5800X. It's possible the changes aren't fully reflected in the BIOS due to hardware or software limitations. Since you're not seeing the same options as on your older system, try checking the BIOS version directly on your motherboard or using a tool like HWiNFO to monitor RAM speeds. Also, ensure your system is properly seated and powered on correctly. If the issue persists, consider consulting the manufacturer's support or a community forum for similar setups.
Based on what you've shared, it seems the BIOS on Asus AM5 boards might display various RAM speed and timing options. You can likely choose among different combinations built into the RAM, such as 6000 MHz with specific timing settings. Keep in mind, this is based on your current experience with ASRock AM5 boards, which haven't involved any RAM or CPU tweaks yet.
Thanks for your kind reply. I'm currently learning AM5 on the spot, having used AMD AM4 and docp for a long time. It seems the new EXPO setting is causing many issues on Asus boards, so a more reliable BIOS update would be helpful. Thanks again for your help. My system runs a 7700X and it's idling around 40-42°C... Is this typical? I came from a 5800X that barely hit 42°C in-game with an EK ZMT loop. Any temperature tips would be appreciated! Happy holidays.
The temperatures mentioned are typical for Ryzen 7000 models. AMD aimed to keep cooler support from AM4, but they had to relocate the pins onto the motherboard instead of the CPU, which altered the height and shortened components. This change prevented proper AM4 cooling. To compensate, they increased the lid size and thickness unnecessarily, which could have been avoided by providing a new bracket for AM5. The larger lid caused the CPU to overheat because it was positioned directly under it. This issue is confirmed when an overclocker reduced AM5 temperatures by 20°C after removing the lid. It’s safe as long as temperatures stay below 95°C. That’s the explanation and resolution to your query. Happy Holidays!
