Hi all I have inherited a nice ROG case and parts. The case had 32gb of ram, 1080ti on a strix b360-f gaming mobo. When I inherited the case I was told that the power supply had been removed as there was a power outage and it got fried. I have replaced the power supply and plugged an ssd but when turning on there is no signal on the screen. I then took out the graphics card, unplugged the ssd and left in just one stick of ram. After I have done this I still have the same issue thst the mobo lights up but nothing comes up on screen. I am not a computer novice but this is the first time I have installed a PSU from scratch so there's a possibility I have missed something. On the motherboard the CPU fan lights up and spins and there are two amber lights on the motherboard which could indicate a problem. The front and rear fans aren't spinning. My suspicion is that the mobo is also fried but I'm confused as to why it's lighting up. I have looked at the mobo manual but can't see anything about the 2 amber lights. I'm trying to diagnose and I have attached a picture! Thanks for the help everyone
The main amber light on the motherboard likely indicates RAM problems. The other light’s purpose isn’t clear. RAM and CPU issues could stem from faulty RAM sticks, a defective motherboard, or an incompatible CPU. Try testing them on another machine. If the motherboard seems faulty after all checks, assume it’s bad. For the monitor, depending on your CPU model, you might need a GPU to display anything. When reinserting the CPU, verify the model—GPUs are unnecessary for certain models like Ryzen 3400G. Ensure the PSU connections are correct: the 24-pin connector (right or motherboard) and the EPS connector (top near CPU) must be properly seated. Good luck!
Hi everyone, here’s a brief update for users with the same motherboard. The bottom amber light means power is coming from the PSU. The top right amber light indicates a diagnostic issue. In my setup, it showed amber/yellow which points to RAM problems. I tested various RAM in different slots and found two working slots (Dimm_A1 & Dimm_B1) and two non-functional ones (Dimm_B2 & Dimm_A2). Using the screenshots from @Biohazard777, those two pairs are operational. Should I try to use more memory in the working slots or should I stick with what’s there?
Upgrade the CPU placement. - Ensure BIOS settings are up to date if needed. - Turn off XMP until dual-channel functionality appears; once that's working, you can re-enable XMP, or alternatively adjust RAM clock speeds and timings manually. - Replace RAM modules several times, swapping them in different positions (e.g., S1 in A1 & S2 in B2, then S1 in B2 & S2 in A2). This might seem unnecessary, but based on personal trials, it can sometimes resolve issues. I'm uncertain if it involves cleaning contacts or if the slots/sticks have unique designs, but it's worth a try. Using two sticks in B1 and B2 will result in single-channel operation, which may lower performance. Still, having two sticks provides more memory capacity.
Before I close this post I'm struggling to now understand how to get the front fans running. This is a much more modern pc to what I'm used to so I have taken a few pictures to see if anyone can help! I can see that there are two sets of pins for the fans on the motherboard. When I follow the wires from the fans they seem to route to the back of the pc and feed into some hubs.
