My computer is an Asus ROG G46VW-BSI5N06 featuring a core i5 processor. I’m experiencing inconsistent performance while gaming: my frame rate suddenly drops to 20 for approximately five seconds before returning to 70 for just two seconds, and then it immediately decreases back to 20. This issue persists regardless of the game's settings, the specific title being played, or any activity within the game itself. I need assistance resolving this problem.

Observe your processor and graphics card temperatures with MSI Afterburner’s on-screen display.

I believe either your CPU or GPU exceeded its highest temperature threshold; this occurs frequently with Pascal-based laptops presently.

If this is the case, consider reapplying thermal paste, utilizing a cooling pad, and/or employing a vacuum cooler. Subsequently, explore undervolting your processor and graphics card to generate less heat while maintaining similar performance—this could reduce temperatures by approximately 10-15°C if executed accurately. I own an Asus FX502VM and experienced this problem until implementing the steps described above.

I’m experiencing a similar problem with my newly purchased Asus Hero 2 GL504GM. I’m encountering frame rate fluctuations in all of the games I play, mirroring the issue you outlined – a decrease to approximately 20 frames per second. Recently, I installed Rise of the Tomb Raider, and while it performed adequately for around fifteen minutes, the frame rates began to plummet and recover erratically, rendering it nearly unplayable. Despite my temperatures remaining consistently below 80°C (after undervolting and underclocking my graphics card to its base specifications), I haven't yet attempted to reduce the voltage of my CPU.

I am experiencing the same problem with my newly purchased Asus Hero 2 GL504GM. I’m encountering frame drops in all of the games I play, mirroring the issue you detailed – a drop to 20 fps. Recently, I installed Rise of the Tomb Raider; it ran smoothly for approximately fifteen minutes before the framerate began to decrease and fluctuate. It has become nearly unplayable. Despite maintaining temperatures below 80°C through undervolting and clocking down my GPU, I haven’t attempted to undervolt the CPU.
