rmation on FarCry 3! [Troubleshooting]
So I purchased the game on a discounted price. I’ve played it many years ago, decided to give it another shot, and was checking GeForce Experience to fine-tune my settings. (See photo) Generally everything is set to high or ultra. I usually get around 30 to 40 FPS, with occasional drops to about 5 FPS. Haha. I keep looking online and see comments like “The game is extremely optimized.” For more than just basic play, I try low settings to hit around 50 FPS with drops to about 20 FPS. Any suggestions? For a benchmark, I can run PUBG in medium to high at 60 FPS or Overwatch steady at 200 FPS in ultra. Also, do you know if GeForce Experience checks the CPU specs? Even the “Can I run it?” option suggests it should work fine (see photos). I’m not planning to play for too long, so I can return if I encounter issues. Thanks!
RAM could be the problem, but the recommended settings suggest 4 gigabytes, while you have 8 gigabytes. You mentioned not experiencing issues and focusing mainly on FPS tuning. Check if your RAM is capped at around 90% usage.
You want to observe what’s happening during this process. If it repeats whenever RAM hits a specific level, what are the CPU and GPU activities... Look for trends. Many games only need a limited amount, yet users often forget background apps. For example, a game might use 4GB, while Windows reserves 2GB for itself, and other programs also draw from that space. If you notice no real strain, Windows isn’t using the paging file, and your FPS doesn’t match your usage, it probably points to a compatibility problem.
I tested it and in just two minutes my GPU reached maximum usage... is that normal? Around 96-97% on a 1050ti with 4GB RAM. It was running a cut scene video. https://gyazo.com/55f7844261323cde0d666097b92baafd
It was run at around 300 frames per second, which is significantly higher than the 30 fps you mentioned. What adjustments were made?
Ignore everything! It looked like a loading cut scene, and it was used about 90%.
It shouldn’t be this way. GFX suggests specific graphics options, but they rarely affect CPU usage much. Even with an FX-8350, your experience isn’t matching what you expected. I recall using an i5-750 with 8 GB RAM and a GTX 770 while playing Far Cry 3 without any issues. This likely points to problems with your video card drivers, possibly corrupted game files, or background processes being too demanding.
