Ideally, each power cable should connect directly to your PSU. This is the common practice. But a 5700 can deliver around 185 watts under full load, so a split cable will be perfectly acceptable. For context, I use a 5700 with a 450-watt PSU and a 6+8 split cable—no problems at all.
