It might involve several variables, but air circulation seems the least probable cause. The most probable issue is that the cooler wasn’t making solid contact. (This also suggests the thermal medium wasn’t maintaining proper connection between the AIO and CPU.) As for the CPU temperature during heavy use, it’s reported to stay within safe limits even under intense load, capable of handling up to 95°C.
However, I didn't remount the block; I just adjusted the radiator and fans...
The fan speed for the AIO can be adjusted accordingly. Generally, around 20% at 80°C and 40% at 90°C, tapering off near 75°C. At 80°C, set fans to 40-50% speed. Pump speed has minimal impact on temperatures. The main concern arises when coolant stays too long near the CPU (hot coolant buildup). Note that the 5800X3D features a 3D memory/cache layer above the CPU die, adding extra heat and delay in insulation.
It was a brief event, and after work I noticed a puddle on my GPU. Fortunately, it's just on the shroud and hasn't moved elsewhere... time to upgrade to a Noctua NH-U12A.
Do you know anything about Corsair warranty? I purchased the AIO in November 2020 from Amazon in the UK.
The Noctua air cooler was delivered today and is now in place. The CPU is still cooling at around 80°C during gaming, which is an improvement but still warm—occasionally it hits 91°C. A new issue has appeared: my 4090 seems to generate a strong EMI field, causing the Klipsch passive bookshelf speaker to buzz whenever I start a game. This week has been challenging.
Adjust pbo to -30 using PBOtunner2, achieve stable temperatures and consistent clocks.
