Hello everyone! I’m facing some network issues. The main issue is performance drops when connecting my computer. My setup uses fiber from the ISP box, going through the first mesh router to the WAN port. There’s another router upstairs in my office that’s now wireless, but I have a cable option from the second one. I wonder if I should avoid putting that second router in the WAN port.

When I run my cable from my PC down to the main router and box, it works at full speed (500/500 Mbps) without any slowdown. But when I connect via cable or wireless to the office router, the speed drops to 300/300 Mbps, even though it’s still using cable or Wi-Fi.

I checked if the problem was with the cable running through the hallway—yes, that Cat 5E line supports up to 1 Gbps, so the hardware shouldn’t be the issue. Please help me figure this out!

Model: ASUS AiMesh AC1900 (RT AC67U)
Take care and have a great evening!

You're asking if the cable option refers to a direct physical connection from the main AiMesh unit to the secondary one, and whether that affects PC speed. If you meant a hard wired link with wireless backhaul, then any slowdown comes from the wireless link between the two devices.

I haven't attempted to connect that cable upstairs because it's in a different room. However, I'll find a laptop and test it out.

I swapped a switch with a friend and connected it, but when I run the Ethernet from the mesh router to the home central and then to the switch, I see a signal coming from the switch. It doesn’t reach my computer. Why is that happening?
