rj45 port maximum stress?
rj45 port maximum stress?
I tried to disconnect a USB from the back of my computer and mistakenly grabbed the Ethernet cable instead. I'm concerned about possible damage. How common is it for a RJ45 connector to get harmed if a cable is pulled? I pulled firmly, but the cable stayed in place due to a clip, not because of force. I've used some durable USBs before, so I thought it wouldn't be an issue. Thanks.
If it functions properly, I won’t be overly concerned. The main issue will likely be the clip at the end of the cable and a metal component in the port. Probably the plastic clip will fail first, and the cable can always be swapped out.
Take care with cables—never tug on them! This tip applies to all cables unless you risk harming them.
It's not wise to start pulling cables, we've all been there. It can be risky because some connections are hard to fix and a loose wire might harm nearby devices. Plus, grabbing the USB port would have prevented the mistake since it's clearly noticeable by touch.
