I placed an order for a laptop with Windows 10 Pro preinstalled via downgrade rights in Windows 11 Pro. I thought I wouldn’t need to change it manually when it powers on, since it’s already set up that way. I saw some explanations suggesting the preinstallation applies only to Windows 10, not the version itself, which made me uncertain. Regarding upgrading to Windows 11, I wondered if the downgrade option remains available for reverting back to Windows 10 if I don’t prefer it.

You're confused about the term "downgrade rights." Upgrading rights are what you should be able to access. You can revert to Windows 10 later using an ISO file or the reset option in Windows Settings. The reset option only restores to Windows 10 for a short period, typically around a week.

Attached is the screenshot showing the order details on the Lenovo website. I understand you could adjust your selection if needed.

Every update of Windows NT Workstation lets you apply earlier editions under the same license terms, a practice established with the launch of the MOL initiative. You only need to purchase "Current version Windows Professional/Enterprise" and maintain your total license count within the allowed limit (or FTE-E). For example, a Windows 11 Pro license for one system grants rights to install any of the listed versions: Windows 11 Professional, Windows 10 Professional, Windows 8.1 Professional, Windows 8 Professional, Windows 7 Professional, Windows Vista Professional, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, Windows NT 3.51 Workstation. Typically, manufacturers don’t openly promote this flexibility, but once a new Windows release appears, most systems automatically upgrade to the latest version regardless of existing installations. You can still reach out to the activation hotline, and Microsoft will handle the activation—especially for older systems where an ESU license was previously required. With Windows 10 and 11, the built-in EFI license activates automatically.

Interesting. I hadn't noticed that before. It means I can switch back and forth easily. According to the link LloydLynx shared, it should already come with Windows 10 installed right out of the box. This avoids the need to manually lower the version.

Windows 10 comes pre-installed. It’s available only with the Pro version, and it seems Lenovo might provide both Windows 10 and Windows 11 recovery images for purchase. Many organizations continue using Windows 10 for some time, making it a practical choice for remote access via AzureAD. For smaller businesses that haven’t fully validated their software, this could be a suitable alternative.
