I don’t own a VR headset yet, but I’m interested in getting one. I considered the Oculus Rift S but thought about spending less on games, so I’m curious if the original model would be a better value for me.

It varies based on your goals and preferences. Many find the Rift S superior to the Rift in visual quality, though I only have the S model. For the Rift, you’d typically purchase lighthouses, but with the S you can enjoy inside-out tracking, which feels great in my experience. A minor drawback is that the S has decent but not impressive speakers—headphones would be a better choice for full immersion.
