Reviewing your $3080 budget. Which CPU and motherboard would fit best?
I'm allocating my £3080 budget to a CPU and motherboard for a PC upgrade. I've already received 4000MHz G.Skill RAM, so no need for further advice there. I'm considering the following CPU and motherboard (once Scan.co.uk stabilizes around 3080 listings). CPU: 10600k Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z490-F Thoughts and/or suggestions? My focus is gaming, especially 3D with 3D Vision, aiming for at least 120fps across multiple titles.
This is intended for gaming, I'm assuming? The Strix Z490-F really doesn't offer anything compelling to warrant its price tag. You pay a little bit more but you get a lot more motherboard.
intel cpus can gain significant performance from overclocking, making it worth trying. the boards mentioned are solid choices; the vision g and aorus elite essentially offer the same VRM setup (like the sic651 12-phase design) but with different aesthetics. the tomahawk is also solid, employing 12 npc302155 55a stages. gaming edge wifi relies on 12 isl99360 units, and all the boards listed above are more than sufficient for a 10600k processor.
You're referring to a setup needing support for 4000MHz G.Skill and a 10600k overclock. It's not going to be a high-end push, just using the software for tuning. The Gigabyte board looks good and offers a solid price point. You're just reviewing the specifications.
i hear the unify kicks ass but i also totally get the deal with the asus, if youre more comfortable with it then it shouldnt be bad. no reason why it wouldnt handle the 10600k without a hitch. i think the unify has superior memory ocing and i know several people doing silly things with it and 4x8gb of patriot 4400c19 dimms, but you may not like the bios/software/aesthetics which are perfectly valid points to consider
I've been wanting to master manual overclocking but haven't quite grasped the concepts yet. I have a 4x8 4000Mhz C17 G.Skill module coming soon and would love to push the clock beyond XMP settings. compatibility is mainly for XMP at best, but it's not overly complicated to adjust timing and get it running on any board. I wouldn't share it on XMP for my Z390 Maximus Hero, though it works with some adjustments. It's a bit tedious but not difficult—could be useful for you or not. You should be able to manage memory on the Strix as well, though not to the same extent.
