I checked for similar discussions and found limited guidance. The site mentions you can increase RAM, but there’s no clear advice on exceeding the manufacturer’s specifications. Going above 64GB might not work and could void warranties. It’s best to test in a controlled environment and consult the manufacturer’s recommendations carefully.

Check your CPU details using Intel's ARK specs and verify the supported RAM capacity. If it lists 64GB, enjoy!

DELL recommends a maximum RAM capacity of 32GB (two 16GB modules). If a 64GB configuration were feasible, it would likely have been noted. It seems the motherboard design may restrict it to 32GB. For your concern about 64GB, I’d say the laptop would likely fail to operate.

This isn't always the case.

Confirmed. The Mac Mini 2011 is limited to 8GB, though it works smoothly at 16GB without issues. Dell seems aiming to push you toward pricier machines that advertise 64GB support.

Apple stands out from DELL in many ways. If you provide the ST number of his machine, I’ll be able to give a clear response tomorrow. @ourjamie if you’re open to sharing your laptop’s ST, I can verify it and offer precise details.

The service tag provides details about the original setup from Dell, warranty specifics, and the maximum RAM capacity supported by the machine. It doesn’t include additional information beyond what’s listed on their site, which is why you’ve noticed inconsistencies.

The RAM they confirmed is usually different from the total capacity that can be supported.

If you have the service tag, it can provide complete details about a device, such as its exact production date and the specific motherboard revision it uses. It also simplifies understanding the hardware setup, making it clear whether a component will function as expected. The "stated memory capacity on the website" serves as a quality check, ensuring only verified information is accepted, while unconfirmed options are excluded.
