Return request for faulty component Capacitor issue reported Need replacement or repair information
I'm checking if others have faced issues with RMAing RAM or similar parts because of blown capacitors. One of my 2x16GB modules from G.Skill stopped working after a capacitor failed, causing random blue screen crashes. I'm about to send it back but saw on the RMA confirmation that the warranty ends with "physical damage." This is confusing and upsetting since the module itself wasn't broken, just the faulty capacitor. I'm wondering if G.Skill will attempt to avoid shipping me replacements because of their own defective product.
They will replace it if it has a defect that was caused by an error in manufacturing. Unless you did something to cause that capacitor to blow it should be under warranty.
You might prefer not to disclose that you boosted your RAM beyond the manufacturer's specifications. Generally, doing so cancels your warranty, though they can't verify it unless you inform them.
