Hey, I'm building a retro Vista system, I'm thinking of: 4-channel 2gb (8gb total) of OCZ Platinum ddr2 800. (ddr2 is the highest the motherboard supports) Is that OK for heavy gaming? For anyone wondering, the rest of the specs are Asus M3A78-EM AM2+ motherboard, Phenom x4 9650x, Radeon HD 4870 x2, Adata su750 ultimate 512g

Intense gaming experiences are what you're after. For a smoother setup, try Windows 7 with a Vista-themed version—it runs better and uses less power compared to Vista. Crossfire will really appreciate the choice.

Thanks for the update. The 4870 x2 setup can be challenging because it places two dies on a single card, which helps reduce crossfire issues. I'm designing it to be one of the top systems available in early 2008. It's intended as a strong gaming platform for titles released between 2004 and 2012.

Also what is 4870x2? The coolers weren’t well built and the second dye actually got much hotter than the first, leading to early failures on many units—ASUS performed the worst in this regard. If you get one repaste, it should be fixed so it lasts longer. The 2012 games are significantly below their intended performance level. It’s surprising how poorly 2012 games run on a 4870x2, even with decent crossfire. Demand for gaming hardware was rising sharply as 1080p monitors became mainstream, while the 4870 was designed before that shift.

I've combined the original parts into one version. The unit performs well with strong airflow, though it's designed for up to 92°C under stress. A tailored fan setting should help extend its life. Appreciate the support!
