I updated my laptop recently and removed the original Windows 10 Pro license tied to my Microsoft account. Now I’m trying to reinstall it without the activation key, aiming for the same version linked to my account. Can I activate Windows 10 Pro simply by logging in again?

When you purchased it using your Microsoft account, it should appear there upon logging in. Information about your past buys will likely show it as downloadable with its associated key.

The Windows 8.1 Pro version was bundled with my laptop when I upgraded. There was a free Windows 10 upgrade available for users of Windows 8.1 and 7, which I downloaded. After installing it, the settings displayed "digital license linked to your Microsoft account." I purchased it separately and didn't register it through my account.

In this situation, shouldn't there be a code on the laptop or somewhere with the items you received? Signing in to your Microsoft account might reveal more information, give it a try. I can't provide an answer.

You might be able to keep using your 8.1 key for Win 10, but MS offers a special download for full Win10 that starts automatically if you need it.

I just completed the same steps a few days ago and everything functioned correctly after reinstalling Windows 10. Obtain the Windows 10 install file from Microsoft at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software.../windows10 and follow the guidance for making a bootable drive (usually a USB stick). During installation, you’ll see an option to enter the key immediately or bypass it. Choose the latter and proceed until prompted to log in with your Microsoft account. Once done, Windows 10 Pro should be authentic and working properly!

Set it up, the installation will request a product key during setup. Ignore it and let it finish. Afterward, log in, and it will re-activate automatically.

I lost my mind... the laptop is outdated and I don’t use it often, so I’m not sure where the accessories are. I haven’t set up the operating system yet.

I just saw it on another forum, where someone mentioned the OS might be turned on after signing in, though they weren’t entirely sure.
