On Windows 8, hold Shift while pressing reboot to access advanced settings, including restore. Test this without the operating system running to confirm the message remains consistent.

When your setup isn’t a pre-built one, after installing Windows 8 you’ll have to create a recovery image. Microsoft provides guidance on this process. If you haven’t made one yet, insert the Windows 8 disk into your machine (or use a bootable USB drive) and follow the steps to install it, then format the system drive and start fresh.
