Hey everyone, I just had my old mainboard fail, and I need to get my files working on another machine. When I put the drive in, everything except my user folder from the previous C partition works. I've tried letting my current account take full control, but it didn't work. I really need a few files right now!

No, I didn't select "Advanced" during the Security settings.

I’m not completely clear on the changes needed for access. Please keep refining until you’re in, and consider trying "Auditing," "Effective Access," and adding your current user.

Change the owner to everyone and select the option for subfolders and files. Reopen the permissions dialog, delete all current assignments, add "everyone" with full control, ensure it covers subfolders and files, then click apply.

Have you checked safe mode? If it fails, try booting from a live Linux installation.

These problems are usually about ownership. Good to have access.
