Could negative effects occur if every precaution is followed and the active BIOS is replaced with a backup? Restoring from the backup in that scenario.

Certainly... a meteorite landing on your PC is possible, yet it might seem impossible. Discussing items with a high risk of failure is fine—though a low probability (under 1%) makes it unlikely if done properly.
