Specs include an i7-10700k processor paired with a 240mHz Corsair AIO ASUS TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS motherboard, along with an MSI 3080 suprim X G.Skill TridentZ Neo DDR4-3600 RAM. Two 16GB sticks are installed in one or two slots as recommended by ASUS. The system runs Windows 10. I recently replaced some T-FORCE Vulcan-Z modules at 2400MHz (XMP enabled, 2133MHz output) and a CORSAIR RMx Series RM750x Kingston A400 M.2 drive. It’s currently booting at 2133MHz, which is lower than advertised, so I attempted XMP but it keeps stalling and forces a safe mode restart. I’ve experimented with various configurations and custom profiles, but nothing stabilizes at higher speeds. The RAM displays XMP compatibility and a 3600MHz rating, yet performance drops to 2133MHz during stress tests. I’ve tried installing the sticks individually; none work across slots. Eventually, my PC stopped recognizing the boot drive and locked me in BIOS until I used a USB to recover. Please help—any advice would be invaluable.

The sticks are placed in slots A2 and B2. Wipe CMOS after the exchange, then attempt again. Refer to pages 1-5 of the provided document.

Values above 3200 rarely ensure success; they often depend on Intel CPUs and involve overclocking. It's also a good idea to verify the voltage settings in BIOS.

cmos is the default bios settings or the one where you remove the battery? Edit: I’m an idiot—I thought it was a1 and b1.

However, when it's marketed as 3600, does that not mean it's the "base" version (standard XMP, no additional adjustments)?

Overclocking RAM beyond 2666 MHz is possible, though not standard. These units often claim support for higher speeds, but actual performance depends on your CPU and motherboard compatibility. Just because a model lists a high MT speed doesn't guarantee it will work in your system.

Just opened and attempted it in a2 b2. Thought I’d tried yesterday when it didn’t work, but maybe it finally did. Could be my PC wasn’t recognizing the bootable drive at that time. Either way, it’s now working properly at 3600. Thanks for the assistance!
