I observed my previous laptop was lagging and chose to reinstall Windows. Initially everything worked smoothly until I restarted after the installation. Booting now takes longer than usual, and once it starts, logging in displays a black screen. I can press control+alt+delete and open Task Manager, but the information is limited. I'm feeling confused. Updated July 28, 2022 by Toonoob

I performed a clean installation with a full reset. Did you opt for a recovery mode that retained your data? Were any drivers reinstalled during the process? Are we working with a specific Windows release?

Hello! To confirm, which Windows version are you reinstalling? If you're using Windows 10, it's best to perform a full wipe and restore your files afterward. Make sure to back up important data beforehand. For a complete reset, open the Start menu, go to Settings, and follow the instructions. If you encounter issues, check Safe Mode by holding Shift during login and selecting restart. You can find detailed steps in the provided link. If the laptop starts normally in Safe Mode, the issue likely lies with outdated firmware or drivers. If that doesn't resolve it, try installing the same Windows version from a USB image. Let me know if you need further assistance! Cheers! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*

I used a recovery method to protect my files on Windows 10. I attempted a shift+restart, but it crashes abruptly. My system runs on a 120GB SSD, yet I suspect the HDD might be failing. I plan to remove the drive and check it out.

It might be that the recovery method caused issues with the operating system. Please back up all your data from the drive and reinstall Windows using a USB image if possible. If you can't access the drive directly, connect it to a desktop's SATA/M.2 port to copy the data elsewhere. Follow these guidelines for creating a Windows 10 USB installation media. Good luck! Thank you for your message. The calm replies helped me stay composed. The update is that my son was playing Minecraft and accidentally dropped the laptop; the hard drive is damaged, but the SSD remains intact. After swapping both drives with a 1 TB SSD and reinstalling everything seems to work. Fortunately, all crucial data is on my computer and the cloud. Now he just has to wait for his games to download again—he’ll be more cautious, I think 😄

The issue was challenging for the hard drive, but the problem is now resolved. Mark the thread as solved so others know it's fixed. Wishing you success with the new drive—hope it performs better! 楽しいね
