You can run Windows 10 on your separate boot drive while keeping your files on another drive. The files themselves aren’t at risk as long as you use the correct partition settings during installation.

Using another drive keeps your files secure, provided they aren't stored in document folders or the desktop. Backups must reside on a separate disk with a distinct drive letter.

Turn off the second drive during setup. If you have a dedicated SSD, set up a fresh Windows on its own drive. This provides additional choices (such as restoring data you didn’t back up earlier).
