I’m setting up a new computer and my old one had Windows 7 (64-bit) installed. As someone who prefers Windows 7, I’m curious if it’s possible to reactivate it. Do you have the original box with the license sticker? If yes, where should I go to proceed? Also, just a note—do you know if using a 32-bit Windows 7 license on a 64-bit system creates a 64-bit version of Windows 7 for the user?

It should function. I’ve handled similar situations before and everything worked out.

Your Windows 7 license type determines compatibility. A Retail license works without issues, while an OEM/System Builder license is tied to the first device it was installed on.

I realize now I was mistaken—I thought I had it wrong. But since the OP already has a 32-bit key, I’d suggest they try that instead.

Windows offers various licensing options. In short, retail licenses (the physical box bought from a store) are compatible with both types and usually include both disks. OEM licenses come with the original version and may include a disk depending on the situation. The label will indicate whether it's retail or OEM/COA. Regarding reactivation, there’s no need to re-activate in most cases. Online activation was confirmed without issues. Phone-based activation works only if there are connectivity problems or the online check fails. Customer service verification is available and can be used if phone activation doesn’t succeed. If activation via phone fails, it routes you to a support agent for further assistance. You may need to explain that it’s an upgrade rather than a new machine, especially with OEM licenses. If the license was leaked online, it might be blacklisted, which could affect reactivation.
