Your friend has an Asus Predator with Windows 10, but after the last update it entered a recovery mode and work apps stopped. You want to perform a clean install without losing the license. The steps you mentioned—Settings > Updates > Recovery > Reset PC and then Remove Everything—can help restore the OS while preserving the license. Make sure to back up any important data before proceeding.

The license is stored in your BIOS/board. You should be able to re-enable it after a new install, just ensure you use the correct version.

Occasionally the Windows Installer correctly identifies the right version. This sometimes led to confusion because I wanted to install Win 10 Pro, but it didn’t let me select it and instead automatically chose Home.

You can execute this in an elevated Command Prompt to retrieve the embedded product key. Use wmic path softwarelicensingservice get oa3xoriginalproductkey. Creating an ei.cfg file is also necessary for this process.
