Hello! I’m about to receive a new SSD soon. Can I reinstall Windows 7 on it? Since it’s a Samsung SSD, I should be able to use their cloning tools. Should I restore the entire operating system from my HDD onto the SSD beforehand? The main question is whether I need to buy a newer Windows version. I have the original “OEM” Windows 7 and the product key, so I’m all set. Just want a fresh Windows 7 before transferring everything to the SSD. Thanks!

Perform a fresh setup on the SSD. You’ll be able to turn it back on yes (just remember to collect your drivers)

That was a quick reply, right? Do I need to reset my previous operating system to activate the product key? Or should I just discard the HDD without any issues? Sorry, I’m not familiar with this process.

Avoid anything related to the previous operating system. Simply set up the new version using the same key—it might not work properly. When that happens, contact them for activation and they’ll guide you through the next steps. Confirm with them that you’ve upgraded the hardware. Although the license can’t be transferred to a new system technically, the distinction between upgrading a PC component versus replacing it entirely is unclear.
