Restart Windows 10 following hardware modifications
Restart Windows 10 following hardware modifications
I just upgraded my system and have been getting a notification about Windows activation. The troubleshooter can't solve the problem, and the error code is 0xC004F211. After changing hardware, some people suggest reactivating via their Windows account, but that didn’t help. It still prompts me to purchase a product key for $200, which isn’t possible since I already spent over $1,000 on upgrades and have a valid license. I originally got Windows 10 for free during its launch as a Microsoft promotion, so I don’t have an original key to use. Do you think there’s any way to get Windows activated without paying that high price? I’d rather ignore the warning than spend that amount.
Windows is typically tied to your motherboard. It’s likely you successfully connected your Windows 10 license to your account, but now you may need a new one. Some websites offer inexpensive keys, like https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap.
Called support to clarify the issue, they helped get your Windows back up without any issues.
I just had to make this change. I replaced my 1070 SC Black with the full-fat GTX 1070 SC non-Black, and Windows said "oh-no, you didn't."
Ensure your key is linked to your MS account for activation. If unavailable, the Win8 key may work again. Should both options fail, reach out to their support team.
The free upgrade cannot be passed along. It applied to the original hardware setup you enabled the upgrade on. Other options exist for obtaining a Windows license at a lower cost.
