Hello everyone,

I’m experiencing problems with this game. My computer runs demanding titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, and Resident Evil 2 Remake smoothly at 1440p resolution, leading me to believe the issue lies with the game itself.

During campaign play or combat, my screen will suddenly go black for a short period – I can still move the mouse and hear audio – then textures gradually reappear until the game resumes. This process repeats itself after approximately a few minutes, frequently accompanied by sudden drops in frame rate.

I have already:
Updated my operating system
Reinstalled my graphics card driver
Performed a hard drive health check using CHDSK and Seagate software
Tried running the game in windowed mode

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Here’s a breakdown of my hardware:

CPU:
R7 2700X
Motherboard:
Asus ROG STRIX X470-F
CPU Cooler:
be quiet Dark Rock 4
Graphics Card:
EVGA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 8GB BLACK GAMING
Memory:
16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Module DDR4 3000Mhz
Power Supply:
Corsair Fully Modular RM650X
Storage 1:
Samsung 970 EVO Polaris 250GB M.2 PCIe 3D NVMe SSD
Storage 2:
Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM008 Desktop SATA III Hard Drive
Case:
Fractal Meshify C
Operating System:

Following a fresh installation, I’ve identified the source of the problem as SSAO. Disabling this feature results in smooth performance, while enabling it introduces problems. I don’t believe a hardware malfunction is responsible—I can comfortably play numerous titles, including the latest Control, without encountering any difficulties. The issue is specific to Total War: Warhammer 2.

It’s likely not a problem with the game itself; I’m saying this because I was able to play Total War: Warhammer 2 on my older computer—a 6-year-old machine with the Intel HD Graphics 4200 integrated GPU and low settings—for extended periods without encountering this issue. Please verify your cables or investigate any recently added hardware for potential malfunctions.
