I recently enhanced my setup with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and a second-hand X470 Ultra Gaming. My previous setup was based on an Xeon E5-2697 v3, using a Chinese motherboard (Jingsha X99 D8), and I just swapped out my power supply with a brand-new Acer AC-1000 PSU. It hasn’t been more than a year since I changed the PSU. I’ll share my complete configuration later. Before the upgrade, everything functioned properly and I even managed to play Uncharted 4 for a while.
Now, after the changes, I encounter a Windows loading screen and then a reboot after 5 to 8 seconds. Even trying BIOS doesn’t resolve it. Once I entered BIOS, I checked the version and saw it’s f63c. According to Gigabytes, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D is compatible with version f60 or higher, so it should work. I’m using a 32GB Samsung RAM kit (2x16GB) at 2666 MHz.
I’ve tried several troubleshooting steps:
- Re-seating RAM, removing one stick and swapping slots.
- Re-seating CPU and GPU, inspecting pins for damage.
- Taking out the PSU and reattaching all cables carefully.
- Disconnecting all peripherals, front panel connectors, and storage devices, then powering on with a screwdriver.
I haven’t attempted swapping the PSU and GPU back to my original motherboard and CPU yet, but I’ll consider it later.
My main concern is whether I should update the BIOS to the latest version. I’m worried it might cause power loss and a reboot, potentially damaging the motherboard. Also, I noticed the CPU fan isn’t spinning, and even moving it to the system fan didn’t help. The GPU is working fine, but all fans are operational.
I also checked the storage and found no issues there. The new CPU cooler I bought is Phantom Assassin 120 SE, yet all fans are running.

Have you experimented with using an extra power source simply because it’s new, even though it doesn’t guarantee durability? I’ve noticed many fresh PSUs that failed, leading to problems like this.
I didn't notice anything. I relocated the GPU and PSU to my previous setup and verified they weren't causing issues.
I shared it earlier, but my CPU cooler is thermalright phantom assassin 120 SE. I’m using a ptm 7950 thermal paste. After reinstalling, I also checked the cooler and confirmed it was just a four-step process. I removed the plastic cover on the cooler, but the fan isn’t working. I tested it with and without the splitter, but nothing helped. I also tried a different header, though it didn’t work.
Have you tested connecting the cooler to your old motherboard to check if the fan starts, while keeping the new cooler separate to observe its behavior?
Are you referring to taking out the CPU cooler fan and trying it on your previous setup?
