Greetings everyone.

After a long period playing video games on consoles – twelve years, to be exact – I’ve recently begun exploring PC gaming. I purchased a ready-made computer for £500, and so far, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experiences PC gaming provides. However, I now suspect that my current system may not be sufficiently strong to fully experience today’s games. My primary goal is 1080p gaming, and I’m content with a frame rate of 144Hz, given that I possess a display capable of that refresh rate.

I’ve become engrossed in online videos and forum discussions, but I'm not driven by a desire to constantly acquire the newest and most expensive equipment; I simply want to ensure I can play my desired games and derive pleasure from them.

I’ve been contemplating an upgrade to my existing hardware, but I'm uncertain about compatibility and whether it would genuinely provide a beneficial improvement. Any guidance would be greatly valued, as I’m a complete beginner and just beginning to grasp the complexities of this technology. Below are my current specifications:

Processor - Intel® Core™ i7-4820K CPU @ 3.70GHz, 3701 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Motherboard - X79 – DDR3, as I recall
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB
Total Physical Memory 16.0 GB
Total Virtual Memory 18.3 GB
Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

This computer setup should work well with today’s games. However, to achieve a high frame rate – like 144 frames per second – in many games, the 1050TI might be a better choice. The 4820K was an excellent processor, but it’s now somewhat outdated… though its four cores and eight threads should still provide adequate performance. Boosting the clock speed to approximately 4.4-4.5 GHz could be beneficial. Regarding graphics card upgrades, could you identify what power supply unit you possess? If not, please investigate; a label on the back of the PSU will display its exact model.

This computer configuration should work well with today’s games. However, if you're aiming for 144 frames per second in many games, the GTX 1050 Ti might be a better choice. The Intel Core i7-4820K was an excellent processor, but it’s becoming somewhat outdated... nevertheless, with its four cores and eight threads, it should still perform adequately. If not, please investigate; a label on the back panel will display its exact model.
