I lack a specific metric for evaluating performance; I’m simply a bewildered individual seeking to acquire a component with long-term compatibility. I had been contemplating a Ryzen 5 3600, however, this trend toward eight cores as the norm renders that processor unsuitable for gaming over the next five years. Essentially, if eight cores become commonplace, investing in a six-core system would be disadvantageous. This is particularly relevant considering consoles are likely to offer superior processing power akin to a 3700x (though achieving this and maintaining an accessible console price remains uncertain).

I chose the 3600X due to my belief that gaming wouldn’t evolve dramatically over the coming years, given the frequent release of new processor architectures—at least one every twelve months. Furthermore, the 3600 offered outstanding performance and, in my opinion, remarkable value.

Technology improvements in gaming are probably going to be limited. Current game systems represent a significant choice due to many games being specifically built to function on them. These consoles have eight cores, however, as previously mentioned, they’re not particularly powerful, and most quad-core processors generally provide superior performance compared to those found in PlayStation 4 or Xbox One devices.

Even if a title was created to utilize four, six, or eight cores, it will still operate on a reduced number of cores. Developers aim for broad accessibility and aren't willing to alienate the substantial user base employing quad-core processors. The share of dual-core systems is noticeably declining, but they won’t completely exclude this demographic either. Consequently, they ensure compatibility, although perhaps not at peak efficiency.

Numerous additional observations could be made regarding this subject; however, for brevity, I will simply state that you can confidently expect a six-core processor, such as a Ryzen 5 CPU, to remain suitable for several years to come.
