My frame rates are consistently low across various games, despite possessing a reasonably powerful PC. I own an HP OMEN laptop.

Specifications:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz
Installed RAM: 12.0 GB (11.9 GB usable)
Operating System: 64 bit
Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 530, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M

Approximately a year ago, I was able to achieve 120 frames per second while playing Rainbow 6 Siege. Currently, the game runs below 40 fps. I’ve also tested other games, including Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, where frame rates remain consistently under 40, and Rust yields only around 15 fps in favorable conditions. These performance problems appeared suddenly, without a gradual decline. The issue arose while playing Rainbow 6 Siege; the following day, my frame rates plummeted. This has persisted for some time, and I’ve scanned for malware. Lowering graphics settings to their minimum doesn't alleviate the problem, nor does capping frames at 60. Despite updating drivers regularly – as advised – the issue remains unchanged. Notably, overheating has been a factor; my laptop would frequently shut down during Rainbow 6 Siege gameplay. A cooling pad now prevents excessive heat, even with this demanding game.
