Resolved: Microstuttering Problem Caused by Voice Over Internet Applications Within the Game
I experience a microstuttering issue when playing CS:GO or Trackmania 2 Stadium with Teamspeak or Discord, a problem particularly apparent on my 120Hz+ monitors and significantly impacting their performance. Initially, I suspected my aging Samsung 2233RZ monitor was failing, but this effect also appeared on my Alienware 2518HF 240Hz display, indicating the issue lies within the software or processing rather than the hardware. Information regarding similar problems caused by Voice over IP (VoIP) applications is scarce, and I'm unsure where to investigate further. I haven’t yet attempted reinstalling the games as they perform flawlessly when no VoIP software is active. Interestingly, this stutter doesn't occur in games not operated through Steam, such as Apex Legends (which uses the Origin platform).
If anyone has insights into potential causes, I would greatly appreciate it, as this microstutter prevents me from playing these games competitively with my friends.
System Specifications:
i5 7400 @ 3 GHz
16 GB RAM DDR4
GTX 1050 Ti
Windows 10 Home 10.0.17134 Build 17134
The only graphical element I’ve activated—my Steam overlay, which shouldn’t be the source of this issue since it doesn't appear when that overlay is on and the Voice chat one isn’t—is causing problems.
Discord offers layers, don't you think? Is the one you possess currently turned off? I’m uncertain about Teamspeak.
I can circumvent this difficulty by utilizing the web-based edition of Discord. It could prove helpful for others experiencing the same issue. The application is undoubtedly responsible for the problem.
