Resolved: Metro Exodus PC Visual Problem
Hello everyone,
I began playing Metro Exodus at its release and am generally enjoying it, however, I’ve encountered some unusual problems recently. It's unclear whether these are glitches or related to my graphics card.
During gameplay (specifically in the Volga region), the screen began darkening, accompanied by a visual effect resembling an ink drop appearing in the upper right corner and rapidly expanding across the entire display. When I access the main menu, this issue disappears, but it returns within the game itself.
I’ve attempted troubleshooting steps including restarting the game and reinstalling my graphics drivers, and even verifying the game files – yet the problems persist intermittently.
Additionally, while exploring a bunker within the game, the environment became excessively dark, exhibiting an unnaturally dense fog that was intensely bright. Following my exit from the bunker, a severe weather system unexpectedly formed outside (perhaps connected to this event, though it could be a bug?).
I’ve been carefully observing my system temperatures:
CPU: i7-6700k @ 4.4GHz – reaching a maximum of 72 degrees Celsius (at 1.225V) – utilizing a Noctua U12 push/pull cooler.
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2080 TI Gaming OC – peaking at 73 degrees Celsius (at 1.050V).
I have successfully played Anthem and Apex Legends in the past without experiencing similar visual difficulties.
Could someone please offer guidance?
Thank you.
Is your mask on? It will become soiled and hazy with use, requiring periodic cleaning by pressing the “G” key. Perhaps that’s the problem. Furthermore, when using Ray Tracing in dimly lit indoor environments, shadows appear significantly darker.
Have you purchased the game? It seems like a rather amusing approach to deterring unauthorized copying to me.
Yes, I bought it for 60 euro on Epic Games Store.
I should maybe test my GPU to make sure that this its an in-game artifact rather that GPU related. Any suggestion on howto do that?
Thanks.
It's a speculative, unlikely scenario with potentially negative consequences, but is this issue appearing when the game is displayed at 16:9 screen sizes?
Which power supply unit is recommended? What are the newest driver versions for my graphics card?
The Game is displaying in a widescreen 2K resolution (its original display).
It’s worth mentioning that this problem hasn't recurred recently – it occurred three times previously. Reloading the game resolved the issue, but I’m concerned about whether it will happen again.
I possess a EVGA 850 Watt Platinum power supply unit. I experience no problems with any other games I play. However, a specific issue has occurred three times previously, resolving itself by reloading the game—though I’m concerned it may recur. My hypothesis is that the problem stems from an in-game element.

It appears unlikely at this time, as there haven't been any reports indicating that the Denuvo DRM for this game has been successfully bypassed by anyone yet.
