Resolved: Maintaining a Cool Temperature During Diverse Gaming Experiences
Greetings! I’ve encountered some difficulties with gaming on my computer and have been attempting to identify the root cause.
During gameplay—specifically when playing games such as Tropico 6, Civ VI, and The Sims 4—the game frequently pauses for a few seconds. Despite this freeze, I can still hear audio and move my mouse freely, but any clicks or selections are unresponsive. Following approximately ten seconds, the game eventually catches up, registering my clicks and resuming normal operation. This occurrence happens every few minutes.
I recently updated much of my computer’s hardware, excluding the graphics card and power supply unit, and these problems have become more prevalent since then. I’ve also ensured that all of my drivers are current to minimize the possibility of outdated software causing problems.
Here’s a summary of my system specifications as determined by User Benchmark:
Game Performance: 66%
Desk Performance: 82%
Work Performance: 77%
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 - 81.4%
GPU: AMD R9 290 - 65.9%

I have been monitoring my component temperatures and observed that the CPU temperature increases slightly during these freezing periods. My power supply is rated at 850 watts, so I’ve eliminated insufficient power as a potential cause.
Any assistance in diagnosing this issue and discovering a resolution would be greatly appreciated. I am open to upgrading my graphics card if necessary, but I’m hoping to avoid doing so unless it becomes absolutely essential.
Thank you!
