Operating X-Plane 11 on a Windows 10 system utilizing: an i3-8100 processor at 3.6 GHz, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a GTX1060 graphics card with 6GB of VRAM, I'm experiencing frame rates between 30-50 fps. Despite using low CPU settings and pushing the GPU to its maximum visual effects, I’m still encountering stuttering, screen lines appearing intermittently, and sporadic audio issues – specifically occasional popping sounds. I’ve attempted to delegate graphics control between the GPU and X-Plane without any positive results. Could this be a hardware constraint? I would appreciate any recommendations or suggestions. Thank you.
The central processing unit and graphics processing unit collaborate, with the CPU directing the GPU’s actions. However, if the processor is simultaneously simulating a Cessna 172's flight dynamics using only four cores, it will encounter difficulties. The video card will require an escalating amount of processing power, resulting in visual inconsistencies and screen distortions. Considering a Ryzen configuration—particularly a Ryzen 5 2600—would be a beneficial upgrade, provided you are prepared to invest an additional hundred dollars to swap your motherboard.
I'm skeptical. Considering my passion for flight simulations, those specifications appear adequate—though the processor could use some improvement, particularly given that XP11 heavily relies on physics and demands significant processing power. Has this issue consistently presented itself? Does it manifest within other applications, or is it solely tied to XP11? Attempt adjusting your graphics settings and increasing your CPU allocation to observe the results. Could you please share your temperature readings?

I doubt it. As a flight sim enthusiast myself, those specs sound fine (the processor lacks a little- especially since xp11 is very physics based and cpu intensive). Has this problem always occurred? Does this occur in other programs, or is it xp11 specific? Try to turn down the GPU settings and turn up the cpu settings and see what happens. What are your temps?
Yes, this is a new build. I don't have any other game or graphics intensive programs.
It gets worse if i turn up the CPU settings. The fps drop to the 20s. I had assumed that 30-50 fps would be enough to run smoothly. Is a constant 50 fps more realistic in expecting it to be seamless?
The display quality can vary based on your screen, however, I require a fast refresh rate when concentrating intently—such as during the initial phase of an approach or takeoff – and other similar maneuvers. What operating system version are you utilizing? Did you recently install updated graphics drivers?
My display’s performance varies based on its specifications, and I require a substantial frame rate during demanding tasks such as initial setup, launching, and flight progression. Could you clarify where you obtained your Windows installation? Have you updated the most recent drivers?
I purchased my operating system from MicroCenter, and I’ve ensured all associated software is current.
Using the tutorial video, I achieved a satisfactory result.
Observations: Max – Reflections
Objects: Medium
Visual Effects: Fully optimized
Antialiasing: Medium
Scenery Shadows Enabled
No artificial intelligence or stationary airplanes present.
My frame rate averages 40 frames per second.
The disruptive popping sound has ceased.
Upgrading my processor will likely improve performance, but I’m unsure if that will permit higher antialiasing – is this primarily a graphics card requirement?
Thank you for your assistance!
