Hello,

Approximately one month ago, I constructed a mid-tier gaming PC investing a significant sum and selecting several highly-rated components available at that price point. Recently, though, I’ve encountered substantial stuttering and frequent frame drops in numerous games – specifically *The Division 2*, *Battlefield V*, and *Hitman 2* – which isn't minor stutters; my game occasionally freezes for a few seconds when my character begins to sprint or jog, and this occurs reasonably often. Furthermore, I’m also experiencing audio lag.

Component List:
- EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB SC GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 3GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC), 03G-P4-6162-KR
- MSI Gaming AMD Ryzen B350 DDR4 VR Ready HDMI USB 3 ATX Motherboard (B350 PC Mate)
- WD Blue 1TB PC Hard Drive - 5400 RPM Class, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64 MB Cache, 3.5" - WD10EZRZ
- Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s
- EVGA 500 W1, 80+ WHITE 500W, 3 Year Warranty, Power Supply 100-W1-0500-KR, Black
- AMD RYZEN 5 1500X 4-Core 3.5 GHz (3.7 GHz Turbo) Socket AM4 65W YD150XBBAEBOX Desktop Processor

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
- Adjusted Nvidia control panel settings for maximum performance over visual quality.
- Installed the latest drivers.
- Utilized the GeForce game optimization tool.

I’ve been informed by other discussions that individuals using a GTX 1060 3GB with an AMD Ryzen processor often require 16GB of RAM to achieve smooth gameplay (and I currently have only 8GB), so should I purchase another set of 8GB RAM?

Recently, I assembled a new computer which experienced significant lag problems and I began to question my decision.
Even in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive at 400 frames per second, the gameplay remained choppy. I turned off game mode and now it’s running flawlessly.
Please test this out. There are additional remedies available. However, let's begin with an easy fix.

Have you monitored your temperatures during gameplay? This frequently leads to frame rate reductions, as your components automatically slow down to avoid overheating.

Install software such as SpeedFan (
http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
), launch your game and observe the temperature readings for your CPU and GPU. Play through the game for an extended period and note any temperatures that remain constant.

Recently, I assembled a new computer which experienced significant lagging problems and I began to question my decision. Even Counter-Strike: Global Offensive felt jerky at 400 frames per second. After disabling game mode, the gameplay became much smoother. Please test this solution. There are additional fixes available; let’s begin with an uncomplicated approach.

Thank you so much! All I needed to do was turn off game mode as you instructed, and now all of my games are working perfectly. I was playing Battlefield and consistently achieved high 90 frames per second, and the same is true for Division. Prior to disabling that feature, I frequently experienced only 15fps in more demanding titles, which rendered them unplayable. Microsoft should not have included game mode as the default setting within the settings.

I recently installed it, and my central processing unit was consistently operating at a very high level (approximately 80-90%) along with my graphics card. After following the advice of another user, I turned off game mode in Windows, which resolved the issue. I plan to purchase additional RAM and a solid-state drive to improve my system’s temperature performance.

It’s great to learn you resolved your issue!
Yes, that was frustrating; I was constantly trying to diagnose it when I decided to test game mode.
I hadn't anticipated it would actually fix things, but I’m pleased I discovered that solution!
