Greetings, I own a gaming PC with moderately priced parts and it’s struggling to perform adequately with titles such as Battlefield 4, Rust, and several other first-person shooters.

Here are my system details:
Processor: Intel i5 7300HQ
Memory: 8GB DDR4
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 1050TI with 2GB of VRAM

I've been attempting to play Battlefield 4, achieving approximately 70 frames per second at low graphics quality. However, considering my PC's specifications, I anticipated running this game smoothly on high or ultra settings with reasonable performance. Instead, I experience a consistent 30-50 fps range. I followed a tutorial to optimize my system for Rust, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQhfCXUm1ts. The tutorial involved adjustments within Intel settings and through the Registry editor, but I’m uncertain whether these modifications have contributed to the reduced frame rate. Initially, when I first received my laptop and installed Rust, it ran satisfactorily at higher settings, maintaining around 50-60 fps. The frame rate drops began after approximately two weeks of gameplay, and I implemented the tutorial in an effort to resolve this issue. While the tutorial lessened the stuttering, it resulted in a lower fps of 30-40 frames per second and the use of reduced graphics settings. If anyone could offer any suggestions or guidance, I would be grateful for your input. While my hardware isn’t top-tier, I expected Battlefield 4 to operate effectively at least on medium settings given its age. Thank you in advance!

For those unfamiliar with laptops, it's important to deactivate Power Saving mode. This feature reduces processing power by slowing down the central processor and graphics card, consequently impacting gaming quality. Additionally, confirm that your laptop is utilizing a 1050 Ti graphics card instead of the integrated HD 630 found within the processor.

A common issue with laptop gaming is thermal throttling, which occurs when a device overheats. Gaming laptops require effective cooling to prevent this; however, performance varies between models. Monitoring your laptop’s temperature using software like MSI Afterburner can be beneficial.

If overheating presents a challenge, consider utilizing a laptop cooling pad, which typically costs between $15 and $35.

For those unfamiliar with laptops, it’s important to activate it fully from a low-power state. This mode reduces processor and graphics card speeds to extend battery life, inevitably impacting gameplay quality. Furthermore, verify that you’re utilizing a 1050 Ti graphics card and not the integrated HD 630 found within the processor.

A common obstacle when gaming on laptops is thermal throttling, which occurs when a laptop gets too hot. Laptops vary in their ability to dissipate heat effectively, therefore some perform better than others. Monitoring your temperatures is helpful – you can use software like MSI Afterburner to display statistics during gameplay.

If temperature management is a concern, consider employing a laptop cooling pad, which typically costs between $15 and $35.

I executed the MSI Kombustor test, and my graphics card reached 70 degrees Celsius while achieving an average frame rate of approximately 18 frames per second. Is this significantly poor performance? Additionally, how can I confirm that games are utilizing my GPU, and what steps should I take to ensure they do?

The temperature is acceptable, but the frame rate performance isn’t optimal. The combustion tool isn't effective, and I no longer utilize Furmark; it’s more practical to assess temperatures and performance by running demanding games directly. This approach, known as real-world testing versus synthetic benchmarks, is preferable.

Before proceeding, could you confirm that your power plan isn’t set to Power Saving?

Next, navigate to the Nvidia Control Panel, select Manage 3D Settings, and then you can either configure it to utilize the Nvidia GPU for all applications globally or customize settings individually per program.

(This represents a global setting, where every game and application will utilize the 1050 Ti. Be aware this may impact battery life.)

I apologize for being somewhat unclear in my responses. I’ve activated the highest power-saving mode.

This doesn't address my query, however. Did that setting already exist, or did you just recently alter it? I inquire because if it was configured for Energy Saving during your assessment of the performance, that could have definitely contributed to the issue.

I apologize, I made adjustments to this a few weeks ago upon receiving the laptop.
