Hello everyone,

I recently acquired a completely new, factory-built PC from Overclockers UK. I’m connecting this computer to a similarly new monitor using a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. When running games, the video signal frequently interrupts with a "mini displayport not detected" message on the monitor. Switching to Alt+Tab or pressing the Windows key usually restores the display, and this problem has never occurred when the PC is not actively playing games.

Notably, attempting to use DisplayPort to DisplayPort results in only a brief 2-3 second video feed at startup, after which no further signal is received. I’ve found that this issue does not happen when utilizing an HDMI connection.

I've attempted numerous troubleshooting steps, including a complete system restore, DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), installing a new 850-watt power supply, and various other measures. Component temperatures show no problems.

Here’s a breakdown of my system:
Ryzen 2600 processor
RX Vega 56 (Sapphire Pulse) graphics card
Corsair r850x power supply unit
Gigabyte B450 Aorus Elite motherboard
128GB SSD
2TB HDD
Asus 32” 2K 144Hz FreeSync monitor

I would be grateful for any assistance or further diagnostic tests. I possess a key for Devil May Cry 5, which will be gladly donated to whoever can resolve this perplexing issue.

Thank you in advance,

It seems I’ve finally solved this… I feel rather foolish for not anticipating this sooner.

Indeed. The problem stemmed from my audio settings.

This likely accounts for why HDMI functioned while DisplayPort did not.

My speakers were connected to the monitor using a cable for audio. Following an extended session of playing Resident Evil 2 at maximum settings and then Battlefield 5, experiencing no problems with either, I concluded that my perception was accurate and there’s clearly no hardware malfunction. After investigating all potential software-related causes, I realized that only one specific game—Witcher 3—was triggering the issue. Upon connecting the auxiliary cable from my stereo speakers to the line-out port on my computer, I was able to launch it without any further complications.

Would you consider using a separate display port cable?

Utilize a superior display port cable and verify that your DP connection is firmly established, noting a distinct click when engaged. Additionally, be certain to avoid compressing or damaging the cable during installation.

Thank you all for your replies.

The DP-Mini DP cable appears typical, being included with the monitor.

A DP-DP cable was described as ‘excellent’ but priced at only £10.

I will investigate online to find a truly superior cable and share my findings later.

Thank you!

Purchased a version 1.4 DisplayPort cable from the “Cable Matters” brand for £15 on Amazon (with Prime delivery).
It appears I made a foolish and ill-informed decision, as the DisplayPort cable I previously acquired is incompatible with monitors that require 144Hz refresh rates – possibly a consequence of my own poor judgment.
I’m hoping this will resolve the issue effectively.
I plan to share my results on Tuesday and thank you for your assistance.

Experiencing frustration with a 1.4 DP cable. The results are identical to my existing Mini-DP cable – the signal disappears when running Witcher 3. An HDMI 2.1 connection is scheduled for delivery, and I plan to test 120Hz at 2K to determine if this resolves the problem. Seeking additional suggestions.

Surprisingly, I believe I’ve solved the problem... I feel rather foolish for not anticipating this sooner.

Right. The problem stemmed from my audio settings.

This also likely explains why HDMI functioned while DisplayPort didn’t…

My monitor was receiving sound through auxiliary cables from my stereo system. After experiencing no problems while playing Resident Evil 2 at maximum settings and Battlefield 5 for a long time, I realized I was mistaken about the hardware being faulty. Following investigations into all possible software solutions, it became clear that only Witcher 3 was causing the difficulty. Connecting the auxiliary line from my speakers to the PC’s line-out allowed me to run games without any problems.

Perhaps the power supply has been beneficial with demanding games, though this situation presented a complex dilemma... This Witcher 3 issue is undoubtedly related to the audio, as it’s now functioning perfectly.

Strange!
