I assembled my computer approximately one year ago, during the Christmas of 2018, and it wasn’t until later that I discovered my motherboard lacked built-in Bluetooth. This didn’t present a problem until I began purchasing Bluetooth devices; consequently, I purchased a Bluetooth adapter from Best Buy. It functioned effectively for roughly ten months, but recently, I've encountered several technical problems. I utilize a PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller and Bluetooth headphones, both of which connect via Bluetooth. A frequent question I receive is why I don’t simply use them with cables, but my controller is incapable of wired connection, and my headphones deliver superior audio quality through the wireless functionality. Beginning around November, my Bluetooth connectivity became erratic. Initially, my headphones would occasionally experience stuttering, though it wasn't a significant concern. However, over time, the stuttering intensified to the point where I was unable to play games without losing progress due to sound distortion. My computer and monitor lack speakers, so my headphones were essential. While playing games like Brawlhalla with my controller, I also began experiencing input lag. Initially, this lag was intermittent, but it has now become almost constant, and randomly, my character will move independently in a specific direction. I’ve observed that when my headphones stutter, my controller also malfunctions, and I've noted that headphone stuttering occurs when I reposition myself or increase the distance from the Bluetooth adapter—a connection that previously worked flawlessly even across my home (approximately 10 yards). I purchased a new Bluetooth adapter to investigate this issue, but it did not resolve the problem. Hopefully, someone can assist me in resolving these difficulties.

I’ve observed that when my headphones experience audio dropouts, my controller also begins to malfunction, and I've additionally noted that the stuttering in my headphones increases as I move my head and increase the distance from the Bluetooth receiver. (Previously, I could reliably connect from my room to my kitchen—a distance of at least 10 yards—with a stable connection.) I purchased a new Bluetooth adapter to determine if this was the cause, but it didn't resolve the problem. I’m hoping someone can assist me in resolving this issue.

Based on your somewhat unclear description, I suspect either a novel source of electromagnetic disruption is present, or the Bluetooth antenna within your headset has become damaged or detached.

Bluetooth utilizes a 2.4 GHz frequency band, which means there are numerous potential sources of interference. First…

Eliminate all Bluetooth drivers from your computer, reboot, and then reinstall them. Are you employing DS4Windows for the controller, given that it lacks native Windows compatibility? If both the controller and headphones are connected simultaneously, it suggests a problem with the adapter, driver, or excessive distance. The optimal range for Bluetooth is approximately two feet; exceeding this can cause signal interruptions due to being out of range.

First, uninstall all Bluetooth drivers from your computer, then restart and reinstall them. Are you utilizing DS4Windows for the controller since it doesn't function directly with Windows? If both the controller and headphones are connected simultaneously, it suggests a problem with the adapter, driver, or distance. The optimal range for Bluetooth is approximately two feet; exceeding this can cause signal interruptions due to being out of range.

I’m presently not employing the DS4 controller since I previously did, but determined it was unnecessary. I may attempt to remove all the Bluetooth drivers and reinstall them, and if you could provide instructions on how, that would be appreciated. The distance isn't likely a problem because I’m seated at my desk while utilizing the controller and headphones, with my adapter connected roughly twelve inches from my head. The strange aspect of the range is that small head movements cause it to disconnect, yet returning my head to the original position restores the connection. It’s peculiar—even minimal movement less than an inch results in a loss of signal.

User shanethegamer101 reported experiencing issues where their headphones would skip, coinciding with problems with their controller. They also noted that headphone stuttering increased when they moved their head away from the Bluetooth receiver – a setup previously working flawlessly across ten yards to an adjacent kitchen. After purchasing a new Bluetooth adapter, the problem persisted.

Based on this information, I suspect either a newly introduced source of electromagnetic interference or a malfunction within the headset’s Bluetooth antenna.

Bluetooth utilizes the 2.4 GHz frequency band, making it susceptible to various disturbances. I recommend using an app on your phone to identify nearby WiFi networks; excessive use of 2.4 GHz networks (particularly more than three) can cause significant interference. Other devices like microwave ovens also interfere with this frequency.

If the issue lies with the antenna, it could explain the reduced range despite a new adapter. Poor connections lead to frequent retransmission requests on 2.4 GHz, which then interferes with the controller’s connection and explains the intermittent behavior when moving the headset. The antenna's sensitivity to head movements would account for the connection drops.

To further investigate, try using a second pair of Bluetooth headphones or testing the game without the headset to determine if the controller issues remain or disappear upon removing the headphones.
